What is the event known as Mosaïcultures Internationales?
March 4, 2013
A worldwide event as the name implies, Mosaïcultures Internationales™ is both a competition and an exhibition whose participants present something of their culture through the spectacular, highly specialized horticultural medium known as “mosaiculture.”
Mosaïcultures Internationales™ are governed by the International Mosaiculture Committee, established during the event’s first edition in Montréal in the year 2000 (MIM2000).
Mosaïcultures Internationales™ is an internationally patented and protected name. The event is held every three years in a different city around the world. The International Mosaiculture Committee selects the host city based on stringent criteria, following a call for candidates. The city of Montréal was chosen to host the 2013 edition.
The main objectives of Mosaïcultures Internationales™ are based on the key values that should inform 21st-century urban development:
- · Highlight the importance and immense wealth of our planet’s cultural and biological diversity
- · Emphasize the importance of integrating garden art into today’s urban development
On a more practical level, the event also aims to foster the exchange of knowledge about mosaiculture, promote the development of new and more contemporary forms of horticultural expression, and reclaim urban areas.
The event’s cultural component is key, since it must be reflected in the chosen theme for the event and competition. But besides representing the theme, each participating city, country or organization must reflect something of its own culture through the piece it presents, thus adding a further dimension to the horticultural work.
